A reveller abandoned on a dual carriageway by a taxi driver was run down by four cars whose drivers all failed to report the accident, an inquest heard yesterday.

A coroner called the death of Mark Flanagan, 31, a "tale of inhumanity" after hearing how a series of drivers all left the scene after hitting him. He said the "appalling behaviour" of the Swansea taxi driver would be reported to the authorities.

Mr Flanagan, of Glannant, near Bargoed, was returning from his brother's stag night in Swansea last June when he was killed. The inquest in Merthyr Tydfil heard he was more than three and a half times over the legal drink drive limit when he was hit in the middle of the carriageway at Glynneath.

The Merthyr Tydfil deputy coroner, Jeff Thomas, recorded a verdict of accidental death, but said he would contact the Crown Prosecution Service with a view to having the incident reviewed.
