Manganese Bronze, which recently sealed a deal to build 20,000 taxis in Shanghai, has earmarked Mexico, Pakistan and Thailand as possible locations.

Mexico was considered as a possible site for an assembly plant because it allowed the company to target the US market. Tim Melville-Ross, Manganese chairman, said: "It's too early to say where we will go in terms of manufacturing but there will be a need for assembly in other countries." He said talks had taken place but were "very speculative".
