Are hybrid cars a good long-term investment?

I'm attracted by the low running costs of a five-year-old Toyota Prius but do hybrid cars result in big bills in the future?

Every week a Guardian Money reader submits a question, and it's up to you to help him or her out – a selection of the best answers will appear in next Saturday's paper.

This week's question

I've seen a five-year, 60,000-mile, Toyota Prius for sale for £6,000 – and it looks a great buy. The low running costs are attractive but I'm worried I'm heading for big bills in the future. Are used hybrids proving reliable into old age? Anyone got one, or can advise?

What are your thoughts?
