Shoulder pads are back on the catwalk and Boy George is strutting his stuff on stage. The 80s are back in fashion - and the cars are enjoying a revival, too.
But don't get too excited about that rusting Austin Montego, there are only a few models enjoying the limelight.
Owners of a Lotus Esprit, remembered for its starring role in the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only, will be pleased to know this has become a sought after classic, with Fish4cars reporting a 300% increase in demand for certain models.
Top of the collector's list is the Porsche 911. A 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Sport is currently worth £12,000, although models can be bought cheaper.
Andy Mills, an IT consultant from Bracknell, Berkshire, realised his boyhood dream when he bought his Porsche 911 in September last year for £9,000.
"The Porsche was an obvious choice for its speed, reliability and cost. Although more recent models may be faster I love the 1980s Carrera for its dramatic curves and sheer good looks.
"My Porsche is part fun and part investment," says Mr Mills. "The car should appreciate in value rather than depreciate - since I bought it, it has increased in value by £3,000. I think the car epitomises the fun and glamour of the1980s."
Another favourite is the convertible VW Golf GTI. One of the original yuppie ac cessories of the 1980s, the car is still popular today. "It has a perfect power to weight ratio and in recent tests beat 10 new hot hatchbacks in a 0-60 challenge," says a spokesman from Fish4cars. Good condition models can fetch as much as £5,000.
The DeLorean, distinctive in its gull-wing doors, was made famous in the Michael J Fox film Back to the Future. Introduced in to Britain in 1981 at the Earls Court motor show, only a limited number were produced before the company went bankrupt.
The luck in buying one of these cars is finding one. They are extremely rare as DeLorean only made 23 right-hand drive models for this country, and David Howarth, treasurer of the UK DeLorean owners club, owns two of them. When you do find them, they can cost as much as £15,000 in good condition.
Another gem from the era is the Sierra Cosworth. The car, known for its performance engineering, made its name on the race track. It was designed as a racing car for the road with models such as the RS500 offering exceptionally high performance with true 80s styling. The rear spoiler was so large it was referred to as the "whale tail".

What to look for
Buy a car with a full service history.
Try to find a vehicle with low mileage.
Check that the previous owner has maintained the car's original features - especially its colour -and not added additional body parts.
