Should we fight for controlled parking?

IMHO We need to deter commuters in our suburban road

Every week a Guardian Money reader submits a question, and it's up to you to help him or her out – a selection of the best answers will appear in next Saturday's paper.

This week's question

There's a battle brewing on our south London road over parking. Right now it's free to park, and commuters are taking the spaces. My partner is in a group lobbying for controlled parking. But I feel that would be writing an open cheque to the council for ever-increasing fees for a permit (£175 for our size car) and for visitor passes (£5). Will we regret going for a CPZ? Should I fight to remain free of wardens?

What do you think?
